This programme has been designed as part of Circle Health Groups commitment to an ongoing strategy of ‘growing our own’ and supporting staff to develop their skills to become a competent and confident ambulatory care circulation scrub practitioner.
This module is designed for registered and non-registered practitioners. It is a standalone module accredited by Teesside University at level 5 or 6 and can also be incorporated into the specialist practice element of the Assistant Practitioner Programme.
The aim of the module is to further advance knowledge, critical understanding and advanced skills to work safely and effectively within any clinical setting outside of the operating department where minor procedures are performed.
This is a 16 week course in duration. The module has theory delivered over 4 days in two blocks of study. The first block will be on commencement of the module and the second block will be on Week 3 of the module. Over the 2 blocks students will be will introduced to the role, the principles of infection control, the minor procedures environment, sharps awareness, waste management decision making and decontamination and sterilisation as well as evidence based practice, latex sensitivity, scrubbing, gowning and gloving, dignity and diversity, clinical governance and the WHO safer surgery processes.
A range of learning and teaching strategies will be utilised including key lectures by specialist practitioners, work-based scenarios, seminars and group work. In addition there will exposure to real life experience in the operating department with opportunities to learn practice-based skills. Individual tutorials throughout the module will enable the students to access further support to enable them to meet the academic demands of the module.
