This module is designed for registered practitioners employed by Circle Health Group. It is a standalone module with an award of a University Certificate in Postgraduate Professional Development (UCPPD). The aim of the module is to further advance knowledge, critical understanding and advanced skills to work safely and effectively within the operating department in the role of anaesthetic practitioner.
This module is four months in length and is delivered over two one-week blocks of study. The first block on commencement of the module where the students will be introduced to topics for example World Health Organisation (WHO) check list, risk assessment, respiratory assessment, patient positioning and pharmacology. The second block of study will normally be at Week 6 of the module where advanced theory and practice will be taught for example rapid sequence induction, invasive and non-invasive ventilation and anaesthetic emergencies.
A range of learning and teaching strategies will be utilised including key lectures by specialist practitioners, work-based scenarios, seminars and group work. In addition there will be opportunities to learn within the anaesthetic and operating room. Individual tutorials will enable the student to access further support to meet the academic demands of the module.
The student will be working in the clinical practice area throughout the module and will be supervised by a registered practitioner who will support them in practice to achieve their practice-based competencies.

Students are required to be a registered healthcare professional

A signed Learning Agreement will be required upon application.
