Fire Safety Manager

The aim of this course is to provide candidates with the knowledge and understanding needed to effectively undertake their duties as Fire Safety Manager (Responsible Person) as required by the Fire Safety Order and FIRECODE HTM 05-01 (Managing healthcare fire safety requires the Executive Directors to nominate a member of staff to undertake the duties of Fire Safety Manager )

The course will provide such persons with the knowledge they require for the post of fire safety manager.

It will include an overview of the Fire Safety Order and the principles of undertaking fire risk assessments and fire safety audits in healthcare premises.

After completing this course you will be able to:

  • Explain the role, duties and responsibilities of the fire safety manager in accordance with HTM 05-01
  • Discuss fire policy, fire safety strategies and site specific evacuation plans for all premises under their control
  • Discuss appropriate levels of management required to meet the requirements of the fire strategy
  • Discuss the requirements to co-ordinate fire safety training, evacuation exercises associated with the ‘dependency’ of the patients to accord with the Trust’s fire strategy and fire emergency evacuation procedures for patients, visitors and the disabled
  • Discuss and analyses fire incident reports
  • Discuss the preparation of the annual Firecode statement of fire safety
  • State the statutory and mandatory requirements of the Fire Safety Order and Firecode for which they are responsible

Entry Requirements:

This course is suitable for staff who have been nominated or are about to be nominated to undertake the duties of the Fire Safety Manager for site They will need to have knowledge of FIRECODE HTM 05-01 – Managing Healthcare Fire Safety 

A signed Learning Agreement will be required upon application.
