This course will provide you with the skills and the underpinning knowledge to competently access a vein and withdraw a blood sample.
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- State the professional and legal requirements of Venepuncture
- Identify the difference between veins & arteries
- State the reasons for Venepuncture
- Explain health & safety in the workplace that relates to Venepuncture – including infection control
- Demonstrate the ability to choose an appropriate vein and perform Venepuncture using an anatomical model arm
- State the complications of Venepuncture including measures to avoid potential complications
- Competently obtain a blood sample

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should discuss access to this course with their manager and Practice Based Educator prior to booking.
This course is suitable for Registered Practitioners and Healthcare Assistants working in relevant clinical areas that will enable competency completion and ongoing clinical practice of the skill. Newly appointed HCAs should have completed 3 months of clinical experience prior to undertaking the practice of venepuncture.
